How to Replace an audi a1 car key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will show a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult since there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes however the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I crank the engine with no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor replacement key for audi a3 the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, as i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, for example. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you are experiencing issues with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to an engine shutdown.

A damaged G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. If you have any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is deteriorating and should be replaced. The good thing is that they are quite affordable and easy to find particularly in the case of the Bosch unit which is what we have. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for many issues with your car key replacement audi. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi car key, as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine is spinning. If the sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost and then sends it on to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This is the same across the Audi Key Replacement Cost 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.
