The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you would expect from a refrigerator in this price range. This includes Wi-Fi as well as app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices and lets you manage your refrigerator from anywhere around the world. It also comes with many options for customization. It also sends you notifications when doors are left open, when the refrigerator or freezer is in need of defrosting, and when it's time to change the filter.

It is nice to have GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill which is a feature that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allow users to select the amount of cups they wish to dispense. It does have a countdown feature on the fridge display to show how much water you have remaining, but that's not as effective as Precise fill.

However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't add to the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator than other refrigerators we tested. This is likely due to its larger capacity.

The doors are a different issue with this refrigerator. They have sunken handles on the front, which allow smaller people to open them from the bottom, but they're not easy for taller people to steer closed without slamming them. It would have been more effective if they had handles mounted on the front.

It's a minimalist design that's not as striking visually as some of the competition but it does have enough features to make it a solid option. The "Chill Drawer", which sits over the two crisper bins, is another nice feature. This drawer allows you to direct the majority of your fridge's cooling power to the area so it can be used to store food items that require special attention. You can adjust the feature using the slider located on the on the outside of the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.

During my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent in various parts of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the fridge didn't differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a great performance, but it does not quite make it to the top of our ratings.
