Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of damage and more AD or even more affixes.

Rare-grade equipment is often superior to the more modernized Common or Magic gear due to their high demands.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be used on weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item upgrade they're connected to. Armor upgrades are available in the world of the game and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrade items components from other items.

The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the level of its upgrades. The ability to absorb damage of an Item upgrade of armor will increase as it is upgraded to the highest upgrade items level. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it must be more heavy.

There are several different types of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. For instance, some upgrades give the armor a certain amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The kind of armor upgrade an item upgrader kit will receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade, as indicated in the table below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which are shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Furthermore, some upgrades require a fee to use, which is indicated by an "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges for these upgrades are updated daily or never expire, according to the upgrade.

The cheapest way to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be gathered through exploring the surroundings and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more costly, however, it is available at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant boost in stats, and are worth the cost.

Upgrading a piece of armor to its maximum upgrade level will dramatically boost its defense but the wearer must be aware that putting more weight on it will drastically reduce its speed and agility. Therefore, it is typically not recommended to upgrade armor pieces beyond +9, since the added defense is usually not worth the additional weight and power costs of the improvements required.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of a weapon. For instance an upgrade can improve the damage that is caused by shotgun shells or the accuracy of a sniper rifle. Some weapons also have special enhancements that enhance their intrinsic qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes weapon overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's acceleration to cause more damage) are two examples.

The majority of weapon upgrades require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing side quests or by killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee of a set number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars are required to complete it. If you have multiple upgrade materials the cost of upgrading will be less.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed. In the past, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay a set number of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to an increased level of rarity. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would be reset.

You can still do this however, the process is high on RNG and low on agency. It is better to purchase gear with low levels of upgrade and high base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a chance at gaining you the best tier of benefits and blessings.

To level up faster, most players will prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their squadmates use to make them stronger. Shepard, for example should upgrade his M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when accompanied with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to increase the effectiveness of a skill or provide additional effects on weapons and armor. They can be created through a process called jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gem and several reagents at a jewelry table. The higher the tier of the gem has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents are obtained in the world through Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and occasionally by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.

The quality of a jewel can be improved by the Jeweler in stages that vary from Crude to Royal. The stat boosts will vary depending on the tier the jewel is at when it is inserted into weapons, jewelry, or other gear.

The Jeweler can create the highest levels of gems with the exception of rare and legendary ones, which you must be at a certain level to get. Jewels can be replaced by another jewel without damaging the original. However you can only swap out a jewel in a piece of equipment once.

It is common to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. The jewels also improve performance and make a surface harder than steel, so that the repeated friction caused by pivots does not cause damage to them.

In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades, the player can also get glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs offer a small boost in power and can be traded, but they are not guaranteed to appear as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also a scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis, cannot be swapped out, and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can give your character many small, but useful benefits. They are available in the starter area as loot or as personal story rewards. They are also available from vendors and by doing road interaction. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinkets that a player unlocks will be the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost to movement speed and evasion. The player will then be able to acquire necklaces, rings, and amulets in a similar manner as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that can accommodate either a universal or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be placed in any type of equipment, while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded, and is only compatible with specific types of trinkets.

These trinkets can provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active when the hero isn't in combat. This allows the hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It can also compensate for the lack of a strong team or talent tree slots which would normally be filled by the hero's best stats.

As a rule trinket upgrades should be a priority BiS (Best in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace anytime soon. Also, consider items that have desirable statistics aren't as significant as the iLevel for the item that is to be upgraded. This is especially true when you're looking to upgrade several statistics on an item. It is best to upgrade just one crucial stat instead of two subpar ones.

At the beginning of the game junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one in the middle and top players will usually opt for a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's ability to control his map.

In addition to the items listed above, players will also find other trinkets in the form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story, for instance the main quest of a chapter or killing a particular boss. These can be viewed by selecting the relevant achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
