Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The statistics of an item are improved through upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment gives an increase in the linearity of a given stat.

Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain a level gauge for each of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling an item varies with its rarity and level.

Upgrade components

An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can increase the power of your weapon and armor. If you do have a non-useful rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your equipment, you can transfer it to another piece of gear by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you want to remove a glyph from a piece of you must salvage it with the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will destroy the item in which it is installed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item with the glyph and its shards therefore, it shouldn't be considered as a loss.
