The Best Robot Hoover

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to how dirty they are.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuums, which means it can reach corners and under furniture more easily.
