WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrade by 3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for the latter because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level Upgrade level, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via several methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item upgrades for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will be less expensive, even when they are part of a different gear set.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment that is of a particular rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's Best item upgrader to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
