For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. 3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum cleaners uk in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's loud which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it will cost you more and make more noise.
