However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to change the mopping pad for a dry one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
