The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a good option for those looking for a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot once it gets full.

Both robots are good in removing dirt and dust particles on carpets and hard floors, and they can easily navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we evaluated the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty traversing transitions across surfaces like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes clearing out any clutter or toys it may encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filters clear to avoid becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station's dust bin. It then continues cleaning from where it left off. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and takes around three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most important feature of all -- it has an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can direct your robot using the app or via voice.

In our tests, the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin, which eliminates a major source of maintenance and cuts down on recurring costs.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot vacuum cleaner on sale to start, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room, and even vacuum an area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. When connected, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up automatic vacuum cleaners in most homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases cleaner air back into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and pick up large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes that can be adapted to the task. It quickly converts from handheld to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments as well as a Wand clip. This is a big improvement over the older Dysons, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its short run time. Its marketing claims that it can provide up to 60 minutes of run time are a bit misleading as CR's tests show. This is a typical, not an exceptional, time to run the battery-powered cordless vacuum. That's still enough run time to vacuum the majority of a home that's average size however, it's not enough to cover every area (though an additional run-through often will suffice). That's not to say this model doesn't have its benefits It's lighter and more agile than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have lots of money to invest in a robot. It was able to pick up the majority of types of debris and sizes in our tests, and frequently went over the same area multiple times for a thorough clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models like our top picks, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or low furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 in that it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower recurring cost and has more advanced automation abilities and can better maneuver its own. It also has a bigger dustbin, and charges more quickly.

The RoboVac X8 is a slick RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, because it has a longer battery life, the ability to change its suction power mode manually, comes with physical boundary strips, and can be operated by your phone's voice assistant. It's also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and is more effective on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in home electronics. It's not a surprise, then, that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic cleaner. These include virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior modifications, docking frequency settings and much more. The app is easy to navigate and use as are other Samsung devices.

In our testing of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller objects like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than some of the other models we tested which could be a deterrent for some buyers.

The app allows you to access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. This feature allows you to monitor your children or pets when you are away. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned for an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also has a clean station that's self-emptying, which helps keep the robot's dustbin clear and maximizes suction power for each cleaning run.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Unlike other robotic floor vacuums vacuums, that are specifically designed for carpets and hard floors, Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard floors. The robots have an extra wide cleaning path, and dust bins that are 2 times larger than other models. This lets them keep the area clean for longer. In addition, they have two side sweepers that clean around edges and corners. The POWERSERIES model also comes with AutoSense, which automatically adjusts the power level depending on whether it's picking up dirt that is on the surface or embedded. It also includes a smart application that lets you browse the virtual map and control functions and schedules. Additionally, you can track the battery's status and return it to its dock to charge at the touch of a button. The app lets you modify the LEDs on the top of the vacuum to determine where it is focused or if it's stuck.

The app allows you to manually steer the robot when needed. For instance my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that can cause confusion for other robots I've tried. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border, without notifying the cliff. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
