Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to improve their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing its base stats or providing additional benefits. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Items with weak bases, such as rings can be upgraded to stronger bases. Items with strong bases, such as eth Titans have little changes in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors, trinkets, and gathering tools. They give you an attribute bonus, or an additional benefit, while the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, or found in loot, thrown away by enemies or as a reward for missions or chests. Some upgrades can have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, the player must select it and click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade statistics will be and also the required material or component needed to make that happen.

There are three kinds of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, like gems, are able to be put on any type of equipment. They offer a lesser bonus than upgrade components that are subject to a type limitation. Infusions are gems that can only be used in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They provide the same benefits as jewels, however they cannot be used in other equipment. Suffix upgrades are able to be placed in gathering tools, will add their name to the end of the name of the item they are attached to, for example adding the word Glyph to an item that is a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would transform it into a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If an individual upgrades a gathering tool, and replaces glyphs with another glyph the old one will be returned to their inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component will destroy it, except for inscriptions which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade process differs from previous versions in several important ways. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can be upgraded a certain number of times before they are "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, but the materials required for upgrades do not. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a few items and maximize the effect of these items, rather than dispersing upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

Once an item has been finished being leveled, it will be able to receive an upgrade set of components, as well as an increase in the likelihood that the upgrade will succeed. If an item does not attain its maximum level the NPC will offer players the option to transfer it to a different character and then re-infuse it with an upgrade set that is different. The process can take as long as two hours and costs the same amount of material, though it will result in less chance of success.

To determine the height of a structure, engineers will employ a level to compare the measurement against an established reference point, like a benchmark or the elevation of the ground. This is referred to as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings using the backsight rod and level before turning the level to make the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that buildings are constructed to a high standard of accuracy and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item upgrader kit. It is a vital aspect of the game and can significantly increase the strength of an Best item upgrader and damage as well as other characteristics. You can do this through the menu for items, or by pressing the Reroll button when you upgrade an item. Rerolling items can be expensive and should be used sparingly.

To see if an item is worth upgrading, players must click the Upgrade button in the screen of their character. The attributes of the item will be displayed together with any required items. For instance the No-mouth Face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials as well as 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Players can also go to the Leaderboard or Golden vendor in Cyrodiil to find out the upgrade requirements of specific items.

Generally speaking, weapons and jewelry offer greater value for trading when fully upgraded than armor.
