WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current Item level Upgrade level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show a preview of an item upgrading's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item upgrade is upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require several methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item upgrading is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
