World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like damage from PvE and crit chance.

For example, a weapon with the upgrade template ending in % will take on 3damage to attack each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level increases.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot for them; the item must have been at the very least upgraded to blue level for a component to be inserted. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using fewer upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level with normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or by getting them from enemies while upgrading other equipment.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher tier version of the item will be available at the next reset. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their gear even if they are unsure what will be improved following the reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be expensive, and it is possible that the item will become obsolete or even break if the upgrade item (information from Hikvisiondb) fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the risk of failure. Some upgrades also offer the player a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs boost the power of nodes within a radius, which includes any pre-existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels whenever you can.

In the endgame you'll find that the best way to improve your gear is to place Glyphs. These are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded to level 15 and give significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without any restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph of the same rank, or a higher rank, which will boost the overall value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the numerous Glyphs, and there are some rare Glyphs that can be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you will require them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that can boost a particular set of stat nodes in the vicinity of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs will boost all nodes connected to them, which is why it is best to put Glyphs in strategic locations on the Graph. This will increase the impact. For example an Druid should try to position their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes however, you may also want to think about placing them near crucial damage nodes too.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to increase the performance of certain items by placing upgraded components into them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with an amount that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled until they reach a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components to be reached, and the upgrade costs increase as the item gets leveled up.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for leveling up an item. Once enough points are earned, you will be able to claim your upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When the player improves the equipment they have the original item will be replaced by an item that is new. The same armor can be transformed into an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This could be a disadvantage since the item may become more expensive even if you don't require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can reroll item upgrades. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a new one, which will come with an initial level and a different set of bonuses. This can be beneficial however it shouldn't be done often as it can be a waste of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times, increasing their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants a buff if the player repeatedly enters or exits water. It can be upgraded multiple times, each time raising the maximum roll by 10 points. Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade the level of their available gear--armor, weapons and trinkets above ilvl 385--by providing the appropriate items and currency to an NPC that upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces increase its base defense and weapon upgrades items boost their base damage as well as their strength and dexterity.

All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Every each time you upgrade an item upgrade it is given the chance to fail. The rate of failure increases as you exceed the maximum number of upgrades. Failures will result in the item returning to its original state, which requires the player to pay for more resources than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item isn't upgraded, the experience bar in its growth bar will be reset to zero.
