Path of Exile Item Upgrades

item upgrading upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes.

Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade gear due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they are attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using a specialist or higher salvage kits to retrieve upgrade components from other items.

The amount of damage an armored piece or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the degree of upgrades. The absorption of damage by a piece armor will increase when it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it should be heavier.

There are several different types of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each has a different effect. Certain upgrades give armor an additional number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The kind of armor upgrade an item upgrading can receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade, as indicated in the table below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, as shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require charges to use, which are identified by the "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are constantly updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest method to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be gathered through exploring the surroundings and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more costly, however, it is available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide a significant boost to stats and are a worthwhile investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.

The process of upgrading an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will dramatically increase its defense capabilities however, the user must be aware that increasing its weight will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor beyond +9. The defensive boost gained usually isn't worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of an weapon. For instance an upgrade could increase the damage dealt by shotgun shells or the accuracy of a rifle sniper. Certain firearms also have enhancements that enhance their intrinsic capabilities. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and decreases the chance of the risk of overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases the velocity of projectiles for greater damage).

Most upgrades for weapons require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade for applying. These can be gained by completing Side Quests or killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee of a set number of Bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade the more expensive the upgrade. The cost of the upgrades will be lower if you have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the method of upgrading your weapon and equipment sets changed a little. In the past, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay a set amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to an increased level of rarity. You could do this until you reach a max upgrade level of the weapon or equipment, after which upgrades would reset.

It's still possible, but it relies heavily on RNG. You're better off buying gear that has low upgrade levels but with high base scores and stat distributions. These items will have a greater chance of giving you the highest tier benefits and blessings.

To improve their skills faster, most players will be more inclined to upgrade their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates use to boost their strength. Shepard for instance should upgrade his M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when used in conjunction with biotic specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are used in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing the stats of a weapon and providing additional effects. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, where you combine the gemstone with specific reagents on a table. The higher the level of the gem, the greater the secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or by collecting Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The Jeweler can enhance the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts will vary according to the tier that the jewel is at when it is inserted into weapons, jewelry, or other gear.

All levels of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a certain level to qualify for the privilege of having them. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped out with another jewel of the same type without damaging the original one. However, you can only replace one jewel in an item of equipment only once.

Using more jewels in a movement will make it more smooth, and is often used for aesthetic reasons. In addition to improving performance, the diamonds create an outer layer that is more durable than steel, so the repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause harm as easily.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the appearance of your shields and weapons. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be swapped, but they are not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and Scattered Crystal. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as aegis and traits, aren't swappable and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are items of equipment that bestow a wide range of small, but beneficial benefits to your hero. They can be acquired starting in the starter areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and by performing road interactions. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket that a player can unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but beneficial boost in speed of movement and evasion. After that, they can acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player obtains armor and weapons. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be used in any kind of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and only works with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets can also grant buffs and skills that remain active whenever the hero is not fighting. This allows the hero to be more effective when not active and may also help make up for a lack of a solid team or the absence of any slots in the talent tree that normally are filled with the hero's best stats.

A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing in the near future, then any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader being upgraded. This is true especially if you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It's best to upgrade just one crucial stat rather than two suboptimal ones.

Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red trinket at the start of the game. Mid and top players, on the other hand, will choose a pink or green ward, based on the game's matchup. These choices can affect the ability of a hero to control the map.

In addition to the items listed above, players will find other trinkets that form trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be earned through completing certain milestones in the story, such as completing a chapter's main quest or killing a certain boss. You can view them by selecting the achievement from the reward section of the hero's menu.
