Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of extra damage and more AD or even more attaches.

Rare-grade equipment is usually superior to the more modernized Common or Magic gear because of their high requirements.

Armor

In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped out with another jewel of the same type without destroying it. However, you can only replace one jewel in an equipment piece once.

The first trinket a player will unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but valuable boost in movement speed and the ability to evade. The player can then acquire necklaces, amulets, and rings, in a similar way similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be used in any kind of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't engaged in combat. As a general rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace in the near future. This is especially true when you are looking to upgrade multiple stats on an item. It is best to upgrade just one crucial stat instead of two subpar ones.
